the No Evil Sessions
the No Evil Sessions
I’ve been going through my basement and have found music I’ve not heard in more then 25 years. These tapes are the first studio recordings Tiny Desk Unit ever made. Until now they’ve only been heard by those that made them. These recordings were made at NO EVIL studios one afternoon in Washington DC in early 1980. They were mostly live to 2 track recordings, I don’t recall any overdubs. Nick Koumoutseas was the producer and engineer. Many of the mixes are pretty darn good, others are a bit odd, with the synth too loud for my tastes or the guitar too quiet. The players are Michael Barron on guitar; Susan Mumford is singing vocals, Bob Boilen plays synth; Terry Baker on bass and Chris Thompson playing drums.
You can hear a band finding their voice on these tapes. Early upbeat pop songs such as Happy Families on the Mall, followed by long dreamy tunes such as Obsession.
It feels good to share this music; that was a special time. I'm also quite proud of the recent music I've been making, which you may listen to here.
