The first Tiny Desk Unit Lp was recorded live at Washington DC’s 9:30 Club one hot summer night in 1980. We opened for Pere Ubu. If my memory serves me correctly we played 2 sets and these songs were culled from those sets. Our friend and owner of No Evil studios was Nick Koumoutseas. Nick carted his 24 track recorder into the back of a van parked in rat infested Booth Alley, famous as the escape route used by Abraham Lincoln's assassin, conveniently located behind Ford's Theater and the 9:30 club at its original location, 930 F Street NW.
Tiny Desk Unit was best as a jam band. Songs like The Train, Obsession and Breathing were good examples of that.
