Rotten Seeds Sown by Force

This is sort of the brother of Just This, No More, my music from 2004. Where that set of songs came from my calm center, this music was inspired mostly by political, sometimes personal frustration. I took some of the dissonance out to make it more listenable, but the sense of urgency remains. As always, I play all the instruments and recorded it in my home studio. The Adrenalinn, a guitar processor, Reaktor, which is a software based synth and Logic, which is a software based recorder and sound processor were the main tools. Recordings were made during the spring and summer of 2005

1 Rotten Seeds
This is one of the best pieces of music I’ve ever made, and I couldn’t tell you why. I just know that every time it comes up randomly on my iPod, I’m so glad that it came from me.

2 Mbira 2005
Counterpoint is always necessary to magnify chaos. For this CD, this is the counterpoint.
3 Upright Saturday
A transitional piece for the CD, and a buildup the the next bunch of songs. I play an upright bass, albeit on a keyboard, and the swirl of the guitar is the cold wind blowing. The impending storm.
4 Erasing the Deck
When i was finished playing this tune I kept thinking of Jimi Hendrix and his tune 3rd Stone from the Sun. It is a tune that has to do with unmasking an unpleasant surface and finding beauty.
5 I’s Had It
Recorded in one pass, one take. I love the drums in this, simple and melodic.
6 Tuareg
After seeing the Tinarawen, a group of North African musicians, I came home to write this. It isn't meant to imitate their amazing sound, just the driving spirit their music possessed.
8 So Much Creedence
I have driven many roads listening to the music of John Fogerty. Had he ever changed his musical style, maybe he’d have written a tune like this. I wish I could sing, but alone in my room with a guitar, some bass sounds, some drums my style of odd keyboards, this is the best I could do.
7 Go Figure
When mystery overwhelms, the phrase Go Figure fits. This tune is about glory and mystery.
